About Alba
Alba Health is a wellness project dedicated to offer a new format of health education through the platform of yoga and mindfulness. Each event is specially curated to provide community members the opportunity to learn about themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. We are looking forward to introducing you to our network of global health educators!
Daniel "Q'illaw" Gutiérrez Mena
Daniel migrated from Lima, Peru, to Humboldt Park, Chicago, at the age of 12. He was intrigued by the Interdisciplinary Health program offered at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, a curriculum that drew him closer to understanding wellness from a multidimensional perspective.
He has served the US healthcare landscape as a medical interpreter, health counselor, clinical research assistant, screening program manager, and through health tech implementation. He has collaborated with executive boards to create intervention programs targeting diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and tobacco use in employee populations. Likewise, he's cultivated relationships with pulmonary and gastroenterology directors at academic medical centers in the US, Ireland, and Latin America to improve technology offerings for pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, IBS, and IBD.
His health journey and self-discovery process have allowed him to understand that wellness starts with mental hygiene. His studies on consciousness have directed him to understand that mindfulness plays a primary role in nutrition, movement, and social interaction. As a yoga practitioner, he aims to fuse traditional mindfulness techniques with indigenous philosophy to reunite individuals with their relationship to the Earth.
